Graphic Designer là role nền tảng của ngành đồ họa — và đường ngang rộng nhất để bước vào sub-specialty (branding, UI/UX, illustration, motion). Đây cũng là role có demand cao nhất + nhiều opportunity nhất ở mọi thị trường.
Graphic Designer (Nhà thiết kế đồ họa) là chuyên gia tạo visual communication qua hình ảnh, typography, color, layout. Phân loại theo specialty (sub-discipline): (1) Brand Designer / Identity Designer — logo, brand system; (2) Print & Editorial Designer — magazine, book, poster, brochure; (3) Packaging Designer — sản phẩm box, label; (4) Digital / Social Designer — banner web, social post, ad creative; (5) Motion Designer — animated graphic; (6) UI Designer — interface design (overlap với UX). Junior Graphic Designer thường touch all → senior specialize.

Graphic Designer — nền tảng ngành đồ họa
Graphic Designer work trong: (1) In-house — company brand/marketing team; (2) Agency — design agency / advertising agency / digital agency; (3) Studio — independent design studio; (4) Freelance. Báo cáo: Art Director / Creative Director / Design Lead / Marketing Manager. Quy trình typical: yêu cầu → research → mood board → 3 concept direction → present → iterate → final → handover production / development. Project độ dài: social post (1 ngày), poster (2–5 ngày), brand identity (4–12 tuần), book (3–6 tháng). Junior tốt làm 4–8 project song song; senior fewer but larger.
Nhận yêu cầu từ client/marketing: project goal (launch product? rebrand? campaign?), audience, deliverable, timeline, budget. Ask clarifying question. Research: industry context, competitor, current trend, brand history. Build mood board: 30–80 visual reference — sàng lọc, tag, tổ chức.

Develop 3 concept direction typically (theo agency standard). Each concept distinct angle. Sketch trên giấy first — fast lần lặp, not commit to digital prematurely. Define: composition, color palette, typography choice, image style, hierarchy. Pick best for digital exploration.

Build digital design. Công cụ: Adobe Photoshop (image heavy, photo retouch), Illustrator (vector, logo, illustration), InDesign (layout multi-page, book, magazine), Figma (UI, social design, collaborative). Apply principle: alignment, contrast, repetition, proximity, hierarchy. Iterate 5–15 round. Present mockup tới client (sometimes via Slideshow, sometimes via context mockup — poster on wall, package in store).
Digital production
Sau final approve: production handoff. Print: prepare file CMYK, 300dpi, bleed mark, color proof (Pantone match). Liaise với printer (Tan Việt, Saigon Printing, Hợp Thành — VN). Digital: export multi-format (PNG/JPG/SVG, multi-size for responsive). Asset library: organize cho client team usage (Brandfolder, Frontify, Dropbox). Provide style guide simple.
Production handoff
Foundation. Hiểu: balance, alignment, contrast, hierarchy, scale, white space, rhythm. Practice: study 1000 great design (Behance, Dribbble, Pinterest, Instagram). Reverse-engineer — analyze why work. Read: "The Non-Designer's Design Book" (Robin Williams), "Grid Systems in Graphic Design" (Müller-Brockmann).
Designer signature distinguish qua typography. Hiểu: font classification (serif/sans/script/display), font pairing, kerning, leading, tracking, optical adjustment. Build font knowledge — top foundry: Hoefler&Co., Pentagram, Sharp Type, Klim Type Foundry, Dinamo, Grilli Type. VN font: VietType, IZIType, Nicetype. Read: "Thinking with Type" (Ellen Lupton).
Tool foundational. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign trio classic. Figma increasingly popular cho UI + collaborative work. Bonus: After Effects (motion), Premiere (video edit), Procreate (illustration), Cinema 4D (3D basic). Tool mastery thru 10,000-hour practice.
Hiểu evolution: Bauhaus, Swiss Style, Push Pin Studios, Russian Constructivism, Memphis Group, Modernism, Post-Modern. Master: Paul Rand, Saul Bass, Massimo Vignelli, Stefan Sagmeister, Paula Scher, Michael Bierut, Paula Scher. Visit museum — MoMA design collection, V&A London. Designer must articulate work. Pitch concept clearly, defend creative decision với data + reason. Listen to góp ý non-defensive, distinguish valuable note from noise. Build presentation deck cleanly. Talk client business need not just aesthetic.
Agency hectic — multiple project parallel, tight deadline. Adapt style brand-by-brand (B2B corporate vs young fashion vs luxury vs tech startup). Speed efficient — quy trình optimized, template library, shortcut keyboard. Mindset: deliver quality fast.

First job: Junior Designer. Tasks: social post, banner, layout — execution work. Learn from Art Director góp ý. Build agency network. Daily output high — repetition build skill.
3–5 năm — pick specialty path: Brand Designer, Editorial Designer, Packaging Designer, UI Designer, Motion Designer. Lead small project. Develop signature style.
