3D Lighting Artist work after Modeling + Texturing, có thể cùng Art Director. Report Art Director / Creative Director / Studio Lead. Phối hợp với 3D Modeler (asset quality), Texture Artist (material), Compositor (post-prod), Client. Quy trình: review yêu cầu + reference → setup light → test render → submit + iterate → final hi-res render → handoff to comp/print. Project: single product render (3-7 ngày), commercial campaign (2-6 tuần), archviz package (1-3 tuần per scene).

1. Yêu cầu + reference + mood
Receive yêu cầu từ Art Director / Client. Study product / space. Reference: existing brand visual, competitor render, photography style reference. Define look: time-of-day, mood (dramatic / soft / clean / luxurious), key light direction, color temperature.

2. Setup light + camera
Open scene 3ds Max / Maya / Blender / Cinema 4D. Position camera (focal length, height, angle for product hero). Setup light: HDRI environment (start point, brand mood), key light (sun, softbox), fill, rim, accent. Match studio photography schema. Test render IPR. Iterate quickly.

3. Refine + submit for review
Iterate: shadow shape, rim edge, highlight specular pop, color cast. Push contrast for impact. Submit preview render cho Art Director / Client. Address note: "more glossy", "warmer evening", "highlight logo more". Multiple lần lặp round normal. Cho archviz: time-of-day variation common request.

Studio photography knowledge
Foundation. Study product photography: light tent, softbox, snoot, beauty dish, gobo. Hiểu setup: rim light, kicker, hair light, ground light. Subscribe magazine: Communication Arts, Lürzer's Archive. YouTube: Karl Taylor, Dustin Dolby (Workphlo).
Color + light theory
Color temperature (Kelvin), color theory, light behavior (inverse square law, falloff, bounce). Read: "Color and Light" (James Gurney), "Light Science and Magic" (Hunter et al).

Material + reflection understanding
Light interact với material — without good material, light fall flat. Hiểu PBR (physically based rendering), Fresnel, anisotropic, SSS (skin, jade, marble). Reflection critical for product viz — chrome, metal, glass, polished wood. Work closely với texturing artist.
Client communication
Client often non-technical. Listen carefully. Translate vague request ("more wow") into technical action. Manage expectation about render time. Document choice rationale.
