Render Artist là chuyên gia executing rendering trong 3D production. Phân loại theo industry: (1) Animation Render Artist — feature, TV series; (2) VFX Render Artist; (3) Architectural visualization (archviz); (4) Product visualization — e-commerce, marketing; (5) Game cinematic; (6) Real-time render (Unreal Engine, Unity). Phân loại theo focus: (1) Look + final render — aesthetics-focus; (2) Technical render — optimization + engine config-focus. Phân loại theo engine specialty: Arnold, RenderMan, V-Ray, Corona, Octane, Redshift, Cycles (Blender), Unreal Engine, Unity HDRP.
Khác với Lighting Artist (light placement creative) — Render Artist execute final + technical render. Khác với Shading TD (shader develop) — Render Artist apply + render with shader. Render Artist work tại animation studio / VFX house / archviz studio / freelance. Báo cáo Lighting Supervisor / CG Supervisor / Render TD. Final phase trước Compositing. Per shot lần lặp. Long render time (single shot có thể hour-day render). Multi-shot parallel. Render farm coordinate. Often overlap với Lighting Artist role tại smaller studio.

1. Render setup + AOV layer
Cốt lõi. Receive lit scene from Lighting Artist. Render setup: engine config (sample count, ray depth, light bounce, denoise). AOV (Arbitrary Output Variable) setup: render multiple pass / layer cho compositing flexibility — diffuse, specular, reflection, refraction, AO, depth, normal, ID. Render layer organize: foreground + background separate. Resolution + format: per delivery spec.

2. Optimize + sample + denoise
Render time = money. Optimize sample count: balance quality + speed. Adaptive sampling tốt. Light pruning: disable light don't affect frame. Texture optimize: mipmap, tile size. Geometry optimize: LOD, instance, displacement vs bump. Denoise: AI denoise (Optix, Intel Open Image Denoise) reduce sample need. GPU vs CPU: choose right engine for scene.

3. Render farm + queue manage
Render farm submit: Deadline, Tractor, Qube, OpenCue queue manage software. Job priority: shot urgency vs deadline. Frame distribute: 240 frame shot split across 50 machine. Monitor: ongoing job status, fail frame retry, troubleshoot. Cost manage: cloud render farm (AWS Thinkbox, Google Zync, Azure) — per-hour cost. Re-render minimize: catch issue before commit full render.

4. QC + deliverable + hand-off
Quality control: review frame for artifact (noise, flicker, fireflies, motion blur weird, fast-shutter alias). Color management: ACES quy trình standard, OCIO config, sRGB vs linear vs Rec.709. EXR multilayer deliverable: Compositor receive AOV-separated EXR. Naming convention: per studio standard. Hand-off to Compositor: review final, address note. Re-render when need fix.

03Render Artist 3D cần giỏi gì?
Render engine deep
Master 1-2 engine deep: Arnold (animation/VFX standard), RenderMan (Pixar / classic VFX), V-Ray (archviz), Corona (archviz), Redshift (GPU), Octane (GPU), Cycles (Blender), Unreal Engine (tức thời). Hiểu engine internal — Monte Carlo ray tracing, light transport, bidirectional path tracing.
Lighting + look sense
Hiểu lighting principle. Identify quality issue (overexposed, underlit, color cast). Reference photography for benchmark. Photoreal + stylized look both.
Optimization technique
Sample tuning. Adaptive sampling. Importance sampling. Light pruning. Geometry instance. Texture mipmap. Denoise integration. Always pursuing best quality per render minute.
