VFX Lighting Artist là chuyên gia thiết kế ánh sáng cho CGI element + match vào live action plate. VFX Lighting Artist — invisible integration của CGI
VFX Lighting Artist work sau Matchmove + Animation + Lookdev, trước Compositing. Báo cáo Lighting Supervisor / CG Supervisor / VFX Supervisor. Phối hợp với HDRI Plate team (on-set capture), Lookdev Artist, FX Artist, Compositor. Quy trình: receive scene + plate + HDRI → light setup → match plate → render with AOV → handoff comp → revise based on comp góp ý. Quota: 2-4 shot/tuần. Project: feature VFX film (1-2 năm với lighting work 4-10 tháng), TV VFX (per episode 2-6 tuần).

1. Receive scene + plate analysis
Receive scene (CGI element animated + lookdev'd) + live plate (footage shot on set) + HDRI (on-set 360 capture) + chrome ball + grey ball reference + camera tracking data. Study plate: sun direction (shadow on actor), color temperature (daylight 5600K vs sodium street 2700K), contrast level, haze + atmospheric, practical light in scene.

2. Setup light to match plate
Import HDRI as environment light. Add key light matching sun direction (analyze shadow direction in plate). Match color temperature using Kelvin value. Add practical light if needed (window inside scene, street lamp). Test render với integration test: composite quick over plate, check match. Iterate light parameter.

3. Render with AOV + handoff comp
Once light approved, render final hi-res with multiple AOV: beauty, diffuse, specular, depth, normal, position, motion vector, ID matte, indirect bounce. Render farm submit. Manage render time + cost. Handoff to Compositor với metadata: light setup, render setting, version note.

4. Iterate based on comp + finalize
Compositor combine với plate + give góp ý ("CG too dark in midtone", "rim need more punch", "color slightly green"). Lighting Artist revise + re-render. Multiple round normal. Once approved final: lock scene file, document, deliver master archive.

03VFX Lighting Artist cần giỏi gì?
Color + light theory
Foundation. Inverse square law, falloff, light bounce, indirect GI. Read: "Color and Light" (James Gurney), "Physically Based Rendering" (Pharr et al). Always carry chrome + grey ball reference.
Photography + color science
Hiểu camera: exposure, ISO grain, lens flare, chromatic aberration, sensor characteristic (Arri Alexa, RED, Sony Venice — each render differently). Color space: linear, ACES, log. Tone mapping. Read: "The Filmmaker's Eye", watch DP behind-the-scene interview.

Maya — common. Katana — high-end VFX standard (Foundry, ILM, DNEG, Framestore). Houdini — FX-heavy. Nuke familiarity for handoff. Renderer: Arnold, RenderMan, V-Ray, Karma, Mantra.
Plate analysis + integration eye
Critical skill — eye trained to spot "CG smell": too clean, too sharp, too contrasty, wrong falloff, missed bounce. Compare CG render against plate carefully. Practice: analyze film shot, identify VFX vs practical. Train through years.
Scripting (Python)
Senior level expectation. Automate task. Build tool + gizmo. Python in Maya / Katana / Houdini. MEL for Maya legacy.
Direction + collaboration
Receive note từ multiple stakeholder (Lighting Sup, CG Sup, VFX Sup, sometimes Director). Prioritize. Communicate clearly. Hand-off to comp với context.
